I am pleased to announce that I will be presenting a Rich DelGrosso Blues Mandolin Camp in Bloomington Indiana December 4 and 5th, 2009.

Rich DelGrosso’s performances at clubs and festivals and the airplay of his recordings have garnered him five Blues Music Award nominations. His most recent are for Best Instrumentalist-Other for his mandolin and Acoustic Album of the Year for “Live From Bluesville,” a recorded jam session at XM radio’s “B.B.King’s Bluesville,”with Blues Music Award nominees and winners Fiona Boyes and Mookie Brill.

This writer/teacher/performer  is widely regarded as the leading exponent of mandolin blues. According to author/historian Mark Hoffman, DelGrosso is “the greatest living blues mandoman, the best since Yank (Rachell).” For over twenty years DelGrosso has written articles for Blues Revue, Living Blues, Mandolin Magazine, Frets, and Sing Out! and he has published instruction books on mandolin for Hal Leonard. He has presented workshops on mandolin across the country, earning him a Keeping the Blues Alive Award from the Blues Foundation in Memphis.

As can be seen, Rich is the acknowledged modern master of blues mandolin, who has learned from the masters:  Yank Rachell, Carl Martin, Louie Blouie, Johnny Young.  Rich has also played w/ the modern masters:  his last solo album “Get Your Nose Out of My Bizness” included appearances from James Harman, Pinetop Perkins, and Linwood Slim.

The Grant Street Inn, a wonderful bed and breakfast in downtown Bloomington, will be the center of all activities except for the Saturday concert.  Paul Wagoner, the innskeeper who has worked with me on my other camps, is offering attendees a special rate of $89 plus tax per night.  This is 1/2 off the normal price.  The breakfast is one of the best you’ll eat–ask Mike Compton!
