The 2014 Richter Mandolin Camp is now over. It’s 4th year was a success with co-instruction from Don Julin and 23 attendees from around the country, coming as far as New Mexico and Colorado. The camp spent much time on developing musical identity, learning the mandolin fretboard, jamming for dummies, how to arrange rock tunes for mandolin (including Pinball Wizard, Sunshine of Your Love, Back in Black, and Live and Let Die). The faculty concert included Will Kimble, Jim Richter and Gordon Bonham, and Don Julin and Billy Strings.
2015’s 5th Richter Mandolin Camp will be the last scheduled, subsequently being put on temporary hiatus while Jim works on his dissertation. Due to camper response, next year’s camp will be at least one day longer and filled to the brim with even more flavor. The dates tentatively scheduled are Wednesday 7/29 through Saturday 8/1. It will again be held in Bloomington, Indiana at the Grant Street Inn. Contact Jim Richter for info.
