In Richter Mandolin: Blues, Thoughts, & Junk blues and rock mandolinist Jim Richter shares some of his insights and techniques that punctuate his style of blues and rock mandolin. Almost 30 pages of tablature cover concepts such as pentatonic scales, blues back up, double-stops, and arpeggios. This book would not be considered a method book; rather, it could be considered a tip book for rock and blues styling.
What’s New in Version 2?
This Second Edition has expanded the original book by over 20 pages that include new exercises, tabs, rewritten chapters, a linked glossary, sound samples of exercises, and video demonstrations. Tablature/sheet music are now full screen viewable by simply tapping on the score. This is a free update for original purchasers of the First Edition! The Forecasters: too damn cold
Released in 1998, “too damn cold” proved to be a well-received album for The Forecasters (JJ Perry, Will “The Weatherman” Scott, and Jim Richter), garnering good reviews in blues magazines such as Blues Access and Blues Revue. Built around Will Scott’s gnarly west-side Chicago influenced songwriting and guitar playing, the album remains a testament to those who love dirty urban backstreet blues.

Yank Rachell Tribute CD
Spearheaded by mandolinist Mike Butler, this tribute CD brought together many notable mandolinists and blues musicians to celebrate the music of Yank Rachell, as well as to raise needed funds for Yank’s family (especially his granddaughter and former bassist, Sheena, who is ill).
Included on the CD are myself and Gordon Bonham (doing the Sleepy John Estes tune “Brownsville Blues”), Tim O’Brien, David Grisman, John Sebastian, Bert Deivert, Rich Delgrosso, Mike Seeger, Peter Rowan, and others.

Hootenanny!! A Blues and Old-Time Country Pickin’ Party: Bonham & Richter
Originally released on DVD and now out-of-print, Hootenanny! is again available–this time as a digital download.
Filmed live at the Crazy Horse Pub in November, 2003, blues master Gordon Bonham and mandolinist Jim Richter explore the rich overlapping of Blues and Old-Time Country music and show how one is not too far removed from the other. 70 minute concert video plus DVD extras such as photos, bios and extra footage.
